Daisy Love

http://prayfordaisy.com/

Please pray for Daisy Love Merrick. She is only 6 years old and is battling cancer for the second time. She was diagnosed with a Stage 3 Wilms Tumor last September. She underwent surgery and 6+ months of Chemo and Radiation. She was declared disease free in May. Earlier this month Daisy complained of stomach pains, a CT Scan revealed a large tumor. Only 1/3 of the tumor could be removed because it is intertwined with major organs. The biopsy revealed that it is a recurring Wilms Tumor (this only happens to about 80 children in North America per year) and she has only a 30-50% cure rate.

My roommate Liz and I have been praying for Daisy and her family since the terrible journey began. We've shed tears and we've rejoiced. We fell in love with Daisy from the very first post (http://prayfordaisy.com). How could we not... she is adorable!!

Daisy Quotes:

Awhile back when Daisy was asked what she wanted to be when she grows up, she replied “I’m leaning toward astronaut, but maybe warrior for the Lord.”

The other day Daisy was looking at our globe, spinning it around. She started kissing it as it spun, over and over. We asked her what she was doing and she said “I’m kissing all the people who pray for me!”.

Please join us in praying for her and her family!!

Pounding on the doors of Heaven,

Yvonne

Letter to the Enemy

Dear ________,

Why do you hate me so? I am not sure when this all started. I know we never had the best relationship but I do not know who is to blame. I have been attempting to keep my distance from you, but still you attack me every chance you get. You are starting to negatively affect many of my other relationships and limit my enjoyment of things I once loved. When I try to make things work, oh how I have tried, you attack. Due to your most recent attacks, I can no longer go to a Starbucks or Jamba Juice without fear. As if that is not bad enough, you have even attacked me in my own home. I have had it, but I do not know what to do!

At Wits End,

Yvonne

Who is my enemy you may ask? My enemy is…

I’ve never really liked it, but recently I discovered I am allergic to it, thanks to some help from Detective Mama Colleen and the good ol’ internet! I am not sure if maybe I never liked it because I was allergic to it or if the allergy developed later. Anyway, I used to randomly get these red, sore, dry patches of skin that burn all over my face, especially around my mouth. Colleen noticed and was trying to help me figure out what it was from. For months I switched soaps and lotions; thinking it was because of my sensitive skin, with no avail. One day Colleen told me she though maybe it was a food allergy and I should watch what I eat well I did. Eventually I noticed that when I drank milk or ate anything with a large amount in it I would “break out” and my stomach would be really upset. I looked up information about Milk allergies on the internet and found these two symptoms on every site. 1) Upset stomach and 2) Skin rash, often around the mouth. So I stopped consuming dairy, but missed it so much I started eating cheese, yogurt and a few other things again. Well, I was fine. It was just milk. I’ve tried soy, I don’t mind it in my Jamba Juice or Starbucks but I can’t take it by itself. Which is ok because I never really drank milk by itself anyway, but I must say I do miss cereal or having a few sips after something really sweet. Oh well, I like a happy face and stomach better. Nest step: Vitamin D…I don’t want brittle bones. Lol!

Grandma Doris

August 23 1924- March 12 2005

I love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck (something she always said)!!!!!! Missing you today!!!!

Thinking of you with love today, but that is nothing new. I thought about you yesterday, and days before that too. I think of you in silence, I often speak your name. All I have are memories and pictures in a frame. Your memory is a keepsake, with which I'll never part. God has you in his keeping, I have you in my heart!

My grandma Doris was a beautiful woman. Eighty four years of age, but surly did not look it.
She had few wrinkles, and earned those that she had. She was average in height and weight.
She had short black hair with few grays; you would never know it was straight
because she curled it every day. She had light skin with a slight yellow tint.
Her eyes were bright blue; if someone looked deep enough, he or she could almost see her soul. Above them were thin eyebrows, somewhat penciled on.
And her smile was gorgeous; it would melt a persons’ heart if they let it.
My grandma had an original scent. She smelled of Ponds cream and Wrigley’s Juicy Fruit gum.

I Caught Hypochondriasis!!!!!

I took the MMPI like 2 weeks ago and I was in the 'normal' rang (whatever that means) for hypochondriasis. Well if I took it tonight that would most definitly NOT be the case.

I've devoted my undivided attention to the fine specimans available to me in the
waiting room for Kaiser's urgent care. What fine specimans indeed!

Am I doing the field of B.S. (Behavioral Science that is) an injustice by not taking advantage of this once in a...I wouldn't say lifetime but you get the idea...opportunity by taking notes?
I mean its not everyday you are in a room full of people this...special.

I would hate to do that so here are a few observations:

1. When you see a child screaming and a mother doing nothing, don't jump to the conclusion that she is a bad mom neglecting her child. She may actually be doing her job...parenting. I saw a perfect example of that tonight. This lady had the most well behaved children Liz and I have ever seen, and at one point when the daughter was having a fit her mom did not give in! Way to go mom!

2. Backing in to sit down. Have you experienced this? Someone that instead of walking towards their seat, they back in and sit down, sometimes missing the seat and landing on an unsuspecting stranger. Tonight that unsuspecting stranger was me...3 times, I will spare you the ENORMOUS details. Who do they think I am, Santa?

3. "Not sick!" I heard an interesting conversation between 2 ladies, one who looked like an African Tribal Princess with a...mane and the other with a bad case of...gas. The conversation went something like this:
Gas: Are you sick?
Mane: No, you?
Gas: Nope, not sick!
Then what are you there for????

4. Ok about the gas. This woman had a RANCID case of it. She kept burping and farting ON Liz, poor Liz! She didn't say excuse me or anything, in the words of Bon Qui Qui...RUDE!!!! Hey, maybe thats why so many people were wearing those surgical masks. At least that is what I would like to think and that it was not that they have some crazy airborne disease lol!

5. Discharge. No not from the hospital...from the eye of the lady sitting next to me. NASTY!!!!!!

6. Tyra, come get some contestants for America's Next Top Model. There were some ladies in there that would put some famous models to shame. They were dressed in the finest cloths, no sarcasm here seriously. They even had THE walk and created a few of their own. One called the "stop and cough walk" and the other the "limp walk" not to be confused with the pimp walk). I still don't know what they were there for. Maybe it was to get a surgical mask, I mean a "cool little blue hat" as one boy called it to add to their wardrobe.

7. She doesn't bite... at least I don't think so but she sure does growl a lot! A lady near me honestly sounded like she was snoring while she was awake.

And last but not least my favorite.
8. The argument!!! There was this crazy money hungry man there. Seriously! He was lecturing (funny considering he thought teaching was a stupid waste of time) everyone about how everyone should be a business owner and that you make a choice not to be rich. Business owner, what about the doctor who is treating him or the pharmacist that is medicating him...anyways I wont get into all he said you would be reading for awhile. Oh but one more thing, when asked how many kids he had, he said "4...that I know of haha!" JERK!

So a man confronted him (wearing a blue mask, I might add, it was amusing) and they argued for awhile but then changed subjects and came to a mutual agreement regarding multiple marriages, be prepared to take notes you wont be getting this anywhere else.
The first wife is the one to "practice" with and make tons of mistakes.
The second wife is the one to learn from the mistakes with.
The third wife is the...keeper.
WOW!!!!

Anyways, sorry if I was mean and/ or disrespectful in any way in this blog. It was just a long night and my roomie and I wanted to turn it into a funny memory.

I hope you at least laughed a little!

GOODNIGHT!!!!

*This blog is dedicated to my beloved roomie and friend Elizabeth Mousa who made this experience all possible. I love you!!!!!*

--And for those of you who are wondering, which I hope is ALL of you...Liz is fine, she has drugs!

Just for fun and maybe some (more) laughs,

Breast Cancer Awareness? I think not!!

As you may know I don’t blog very often. Well sadly I’m not breaking my non-blogging streak with a happy, funny or inspirational blog, but with a blog that is a result of finding myself utterly appalled tonight and being urged by my roomie to blog!

So I am sure that by now you have seen, heard or maybe even participated in the ‘raising of breast Cancer Awareness’ through a status.

Here is how it started:
Ladies, write the color of your bra in your status, just the color, nothing else, and send this message on to only girls, no men. It will be neat to see if this will spread the wings of cancer awareness.

Innocent enough right? I guess so. I personally did not participate because I didn’t want the whole world to know what color bra I was wearing, especially my male friends if they found out what I was refereeing to.

Next:
Let's switch it up ladies... Posting your Bra color was great! It's amazing how many women posted this on their status! And awareness was raised we were even on the news! So let 's try this - If you had an inch of pink ribbon for every one person you personally know who has been touched by breast cancer, how many inches of pink ribbon would you have? Just write the number in your status, "# inches" , nothing else, and send this message on to only girls, no men.

Still pretty innocent, although some guys did get the wrong idea about it. But I’m not even going to go into that.

Next:
This is hilarious!!!! Please Don't spoil the fun, and lets keep this thing going. Since the men didn't appreciate our bra colors or ribbon size...DONT TELL ANY MEN, so we keep them guessing!!!! Type out the sentence you end up with in YOUR STATUS!!!

Month you were born:
January-------I kicked
February------I loved
March----------I karate chopped
April------------I licked
May------------I jumped on
June-----------I smelled
July------------I did the Macarena With
August--------I had lunch with
September----I danced with
October-------I sang to
November-----I yelled at
December-----I ran over

Pick the day (number) you were born on:
1-------a birdbath
2-------a monster
3-------a phone
4-------a fork
5-------a snowman
6-------a gangster
7-------my mobile phone
8-------my dog
9-------my best friends' boyfriend
10-------my neighbour
11-------my science teacher
12-------a banana
13-------a fireman
14-------a stuffed animal
15-------a goat
16-------a pickle
17-------your mom
18-------a spoon
19------- a smurf
20-------a baseball bat
21-------a ninja
22-------Chuck Norris
23-------a noodle
24-------a squirrel
25-------a football player
26-------my sister
27-------my brother
28-------an iPod
29-------a surfer
30-------a homeless guy
31-------a llama

What is the last number of the year you were born:
1--------- In my car
2 --------- On your car
3 --------- In a hole
4 --------- Under your bed
5 --------- Riding a Motorcycle
6 --------- sliding down a hill
7 --------- in an elevator
8---------- at the dinner table
9 -------- In line at the bank
0 -------- in your bathroom

Pick the color of shirt you are wearing:
White---------because I'm cool like that
Black---------because that's how I roll.
Pink-----------because I'm NOT crazy.
Red-----------because the voices told me to.
Blue-----------because I'm sexy and I do what I want
Green---------because I think I need some serious help.
Purple---------because I'm AWESOME!
Gray----------because Big Bird said to and he's my leader.
Yellow---------because someone offered me 1,000,000 dollars
Orange--------because my family thinks I'm stupid anyway.
Brown---------because I can.
Other----------because I'm a Ninja!
None----------because I can't control myself!

Apparently someone decided that the reaction of confused men ought to take precedence over Breast Cancer Awareness. But it was still innocent and yes kind of funny. Just wait until you see what came next.

Next:
Let's keep the guys going. What sort of weather do we ladies prefer? Update your status with one of the following:
'wet and hard' if your a rain lover
'soft and slow' if you prefer snow
'hot and steamy' if you're a sun worshipper
'hard Blow' if you prefer wind
'I'm easy' if you're not bothered what the weather is like.
Drives them nuts when we all unite like this- scares them half to death - Goddesses will rule the world again!!!

And this is where I found myself utterly appalled. I cannot believe that what started out as an attempt to raise Breast Cancer Awareness has turned into a charade of sleazy status’. And about not telling the guys, I must have been totally off base. I thought that was about remaining ladylike or from a Christian standpoint not causing our brothers to stumble.

A lady by the name of Rachal was on the right track when she added this into a message but then she too got caught up in it being a game.
(Addendum by Rachal) This game may be all fun and everything... It's fun to make the men go crazy with some mass effort by the women here and there. But take a moment from this 'game' and really think about what/why this started. Women every day learn that their entire worlds are going to change. Some may not win their fight. Take a moment and think of the untold strength and determination of these women to fight for their very lives. So post up your shoe size, foward the msg (with or without my little addition) and think on why these games started in the first place. Please.

I could go on and on about this, but I won’t. I will end with this...

…a picture of my dear friend Vicki (a 2 time Breast Cancer Survivor) and I. We celebrated her 5th Anniversary of being Breast Cancer Free this past summer. If I called her and told her I put “wet and hard” or I’m easy” in my status JUST for her. Do you think she would be proud? I think not!
